I am joining with Jez for A Fan of… #42
Driving into Oatlands is like stepping back in time….if you could ignore the cars! The historic Tasmanian town in the midlands supposedly has the largest collection of sandstone Georgian Houses in the country. One Hundred and Thirty Eight for a population of 600ish residents.
The town was established in 1821 but the star attraction is the Callington Mill, built in 1837. The mill on Old Mill Lane dominates the landscape of the town…infact, it can clearly be seen from the highway running past the town. It is the only working Lincolnshire-style, wind-driven, flour mill in the Southern Hemisphere still producing flour which can be bought on site.
Unfortunately the mill was closed for maintenance work while we were visiting….we’ll just have to visit again at a later date.
